| 327240 | 2005-02-23 10:25:00 | Which would you choose if the price was the same? BENQ FP937S+ (TN screen) or Samsung 193P (MVA screen) for RTS gaming. Frankly, for the price you're prepared to pay, you would be better off with with a 21" CRT monitor. You'll get better colour fidelity, a fast refresh that guarantees you won't get ghosting and a native resoluton of 1600x1200 if the rest of your hardware supports it. I really don't understand the rush to an inferior technology at an inflated cost to the user. Is a skinny screen really so 'cool' that people are prepared to ignore the shortcomings and even pay twice as much for the equivalent screen real estate? Apparently so. If you haven't already dropped the cash on an LCD monitor, can I suggest you compare specs for say a 21" LaCie Electron Blue. Same money, superior performance, multiple resolutions, better type handling and much more real estate. |

Yes they do. But a funny thing...I have an LCD display and a CRT and they both are the same distance from my face and the keyboard tends to govern their positions from the front edge of my desks. And while the CRT pretty much fills the space between the screen and the wall with its bulk, the LCD has behind it some outdated periodicals, some magazine cover CDs and a bunch of dust bunnies. So in my case at least, the extra volume on my desktop inhabited by my CRT really hasn't cost me any space I would consider valuable. But that's just me, I know. Others may well keep precious things behind their LCD displays. As to the weight of the 21" CRTs, I had my old Viewsonic 21 (now that's a beast of a monitor) parked on an el-cheapo Warehouse home office desk for 5 years with no collapse recorded. The monitor is long gone (only lasted 9 years) but the desk is now my son's, and it's older than he is. :-) Of course, I'd be lying if I claimed the 21" CRTs have no downsides. If you've ever had to move one, you'll know what I mean. Cheers. |

"Of course, I'd be lying if I claimed the 21" CRTs have no downsides. If you've ever had to move one, you'll know what I mean. " Moving one any distance takes careful planning and a hatch back/ van. Trying to open a car door while holding one with one hand is not recommended. If you can manage to get one into the back seat the position places so much strain as you try to gently place it down that it causes an almost immediate hernia. :D |
