| 327362 | 2005-02-22 06:29:00 | I need all the help i can get. Ok, everytime I run games, or any other applications my PC will shut down most of the time. There're few games i can play without it shutting down, the small browser games or games from www.byond.com , I'm guessing its either faulty RAM or bad motherboard. Please help me. Windows XP Professional one 512mb stick of RAM ATI Radeon 9600XT 256mb 2 hard drives. 1 fan on the power supply, 1 on vid card. and one above mobo. FoxConn motherboard |

| 327365 | 2005-02-22 10:06:00 | Checklist 1. Faulty RAM - use something like memtest86 to do that 2. CPU overheating - find a cpu burn in program that will run your cpu at 100% and check temperature with something like Motherboard Monitor 5. Of course observer that your fans are spinning correctly. 3. Hard drive failing - a possibility - use the maker of your harddrive diagnostics tools to look for faults 4. Spyware/ viruses - make sure any strange processes are ended before launching game 5. Get the latest vid drivers from ATI 6. Get the latest motherboard drivers from your motherboard maker and look for bios updates. 7. Of course look for and apply updates for your games 8. Update your OS 9. Check out sound card drivers if possible 10. Run dxdiag and check for problems there (update directx if needed) 11. Try another video card and put your current card in another PC to see if it is okay - make sure its heatsink/fan is ok (if it has them). 12. Inspect motherbaord capacitors for class signes of leaking ... try another motherboard (of same model) if at all possible 13. Check you power supply fan is working okay and that it isn't chocked with dust (don't open it though). Borrow another (of better quality) power supply and see if that helps things out. 14. Run something like Knoppix and see if anything wierd happens while using it (okay that's pretty vague ;) ) 15. If you have a network card disable it/remove it and see if it helps 16. Reinstall Windows XP from known good media after making a careful backup of data you want 17. Write a strongly written letter to Bill Gates 18. Post a "This game sucks as it crashes every @#@ seconds" in the appropriate game forum 19. Sell the PC to cash converters 20. Buy a Mac :D |
