| 327167 | 2005-02-21 09:14:00 | Hi...While my monitor is away for repair I'd like to use an old but good spare that came with a 486 a long time ago. But need to make sure of something first. The old monitor gets its power from a socket on the top right of the back of the old pc box...next to the mains power "In" socket. My latest machine has no socket at all to supply power to the monitor. I have a spare cable that will fit the old monitor and go to a wall socket in the house the way they seem to work these days. Will this be OK and not cause anything nasty to happen to pc or monitor? It seems to be OK to me but it's the simple things that usually spoil my night. I'll wait till I hear something before I press the switch. Cheers Ken. |

| 327168 | 2005-02-21 09:17:00 | That should work no probs at all. It just means the monitor's LED wont turn off, when the pc gets turned off. Just turn the monitor off, yourself. I've done the same thing here previously. |

| 327169 | 2005-02-21 09:18:00 | It's fine. If the cable fits it is the right one. Its a standard IEC power connector, when supplied from ex the monitor it is just a connect-through to the mains, its not a separate supply from the PSU. |

| 327170 | 2005-02-21 09:38:00 | Be careful that the old monitor can handle the resolution and refresh rates your video card is currently set up for, or it will be rather unhappy. If you are in doubt, I think you can start in safe mode and adjust video settings from there...anyone know for sure? |
