327012 2005-02-21 07:11:00 Greetings All
I have two old motherboards,
they currently run but I am looking to see if I can upgrade them cheaply to something more powerful. as there seem to be a few cheap old CPUs on trademe in the sub $5 range

the boards are

cr120 -- Compaq en series

and

P54C TX1 - Hurricane computer -- 166MHz machine

I don't seem to be able to find any info on the second one, I can find similar numbers but none the same.
as for the compaq --- I can't find anything useful apart from people bagging it

Thanks Nigel

327015 2005-02-22 01:37:00 Thanks guys

Problem is that neither of the mobos are hooked up to machines with o/s on them so i would need to install o/s first, anyhow thanks for the help I know one board can be updated to a slightly faster chip

327016 2005-02-22 01:47:00 If your machine can boot off a CD, then try out this Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/). It doesn't require a running OS (or even a hard drive installed), as it runs off the CD. Depending on which one you download, it varies from 73MB to 113MB (ISO) in size. Amongst its tools are system information programs. You can use these to find out hardware information. Jen (38)
327017 2005-02-22 03:32:00 have another good look at the mobo, there should be a series of numbers and letters, google them and you may find more Prescott (11)
