2005-02-23 00:51:00 | Hi Guys, My daughter does a lot of downloaded picture and trailer viewing and music listening on the PC. She wants all the various media players as one won't open all files apparently. Is there a media player that will open all files ? cheers Pete

2005-02-23 01:31:00 | No. Jetaudio www.jetaudio.com and some others can play multiple formats. Altho jetaudio might NEED QT... But it can by the looks of it play RA/RM/RMI/RAM/ASF/ASX/DIVX/AVI/FLAC/IT/M3U/M4A/MID/MIDI/MKV/MOD/MOV/MP3/MP4/MPC/MPE/MPEG/MPG/OGG/OGM/PLS/SPX/WAV/WAX/WMA/WMV/WVX, and 669/AIF/AMF/AMS/APE/AU/DBM/DMF/FAR/IFO/IMS/KAR/MED/MP2/MT2/OKT/MTM/PRM/SND/ULT/UMX/VCD/VOB! The basic version has just a few things missing that are only in the plus version. BUT should have the same filetypes. Winamp, might even play most formats.

2005-02-23 04:49:00 | Media Player Classic You still need to download the QT and Rm to get the codecs but once installed Media player classic will open these files without the need to use the abortions of real media and qt. Plays stacks more formats as well.

2005-02-23 07:22:00 | If you really must play RealAudio/Video, try Real Alternative, which plays said formats without the additional bloat and annoyance of RealOne. www.free-codecs.com But yes, even in this day and age you still need more than one tool to get the job done occasionally. But hey, it isn't that bad if you follow the Media Player Classic example above. ;)

I got the media player classic but it wont play any MP3s... when you say "get the codecs" from QT and Rm ... does downloading and installing them do that? I was trying to avoid getting them ! May as well download all the feckers (QT, Rm and the windows thing) and let her use them if alternatives need various additions... cheers Pete |

2005-02-23 09:39:00 | I would be checking out Winamp, cos I know that is the only one I used to use, and it does MP3's. Well it used to. Have a good look at its specs, and see if it is what you want. | supergran (108) | |

2005-02-23 10:44:00 | media player classic requires the qt and real media codecs to run but after you have downloaded this bloatware set the media player classic as default player of these formats and you should never see them again. You don't want to use qt and real media in their native format with their constant reminders of prog updates, offers to upgrade to the paid version and their little turf wars they engage in in setting themselves as default viewers and players.
