327538 2005-02-23 04:35:00 Hello
I have just installed a 40G drive in a 466 machine, As the bios is too old to handle anything more than 8G I have put it in with an ATA card. The machine recognises it etc but when I try to install XP pro on it I keep getting the
ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted message. Is there a way around this, thanks

327540 2005-02-23 04:51:00 Is this after you have installed XP and try to boot to Windows or is even before you get going?

Have you formated the drive, what are the jumper/card settings?

327541 2005-02-23 06:19:00 yes that is the message, I am part way thru the XP installation and when it restarts to setup this message comes up Fourpawz (6882)
327542 2005-02-23 06:23:00 Murray P,
this comes up after the initial file loading of the XP installation and as it reboots to set up
and configure XP. The drive was formatted as a part of the installation before the files were loaded. The ata card settings are auto. I think they get setup when I push F6 during the windows setup and load the drivers froma disk in a drive

327545 2005-02-24 10:25:00 isnt the min cpu required for XP a PIII 266mhz? Agent_24 (57)
327546 2005-02-24 16:04:00 dunno but I've had it running on a 200mmx........anyway why use an add on card for the drive why not goto the drives manufcturer site and get a DDO program, (dynamic drive overlay) most drive makers supply this and it'll allow you to run your drive perfectly happily on a bios that wont technically support that size.......it's just a way of 'fooling' the system.........hell I've installed 80gb drives on OLLLLDDDD bios systems before using this method and nto had any probs at all............i'ts pretty simple..... drcspy (146)
