327988 2005-02-25 01:57:00 I was looking around on trademe and found this:

www.trademe.co.nz

Is it good value?
What are the pro's and con's of dual CPU systems?
How much do you think I would be able to pick up a second 866MHz PIII for?

327989 2005-02-25 02:03:00 Personally I would avoid the purchase of pirated software. Metla (12)
327990 2005-02-25 03:33:00 I'm not interested with the included software, If I get it I'll chuck a copy of slackware linux 10.1 on it

would a dual-pIII 866MHz system be faster than a 1.7GHz P4 system?

327991 2005-02-25 03:51:00 My gut feeling is saying....HELL NO. Metla (12)
327992 2005-02-25 07:57:00 with dual cpu you don't get 2x performance. to make best use of a dual cpu pc you need software thats desighned for it eg some video and pic editing software will get a big boost in speed, however i still doubt it will be as fast as the p4 system.
also don't forget a lot of dual cpu system require ecc ram which is not cheap.

327993 2005-02-25 11:01:00 rd ram :yuck:

"Ndivia 32MB AGP Video card probably TNT2 m64 :groan:

I pick up 866's for around $35-40 and I only pay that since they make a cheap upgrade on a lot of socket 370 boards running lower clocked celerons.

Plus its a two bag ugly box.

327994 2005-02-25 17:40:00 Recently, I saw advertisers advertising dual-processor socket motherboard. This motherboard has made me thought about this scenario: If I fit in both socket with Pentium 4 3.0GHz with HT, will I get more than 5GHz? And how about the HT technology in each Pentium 4? Will I get dual-dual-Pentium 4? Something is telling me that dual core processor is still something to early at this time although I heard Intel is now focusing on debeloping it. Probably in the future. Renmoo (66)
327995 2005-02-25 21:42:00 AMD have already built it, sent it out to partners, showcased it at tech shows, and it will be on the market at the end of the year...plus it will fit directly into socket 939/940 boards.

Who cares what Intel are doing?

Well if u had a dual CPU P4 mobo, and XP/2k, they would read it as 4 cpu's, if both CPUS, were HT.

327997 2005-02-25 22:30:00 Cool! 4 CPUs.... But why isn't there development of more than 2 and so on processor on a single CPU? Why choose 2? Isn't it better to have triple or quadruple of number of CPU? Renmoo (66)
