327945 2005-02-24 21:35:00 HI,

I downloaded an academic Journal article a couple of days ago and its in PDF format . Soon after I got it, I read it and then transferred it into my PDF folder, which is in My Documents .

Today I started my routine Eazi backup, and it went smoothly until it reached this file and aborted . I made a note of the file name and then attempted to delete it, and I got this message .

Cannot delete “file name”: Access denied .
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not in use .

I’ve tried delete/erase/scan/cut/rename/ along with trying to open it using Abode or any other software I could think of, but no success, just the same message . I then logged off and started the PC and tried again, same result .

I've just downloaded the updates for SpyBot/ Adaware etc and scanned, they find nothing wrong .

Please, can anyone give some idea of how to get rid of this file?

327946 2005-02-24 22:00:00 Try MoveOnBoot from www.gibinsoft.net as posted here previously by Davesdad. FoxyMX (5)
327947 2005-02-25 01:52:00 Thanks FoxMX,

I downloaded the software, plus key, and ran it over the file a couple of times and the file was still there after each re-boot.

Cant think of anything else I can do.

Thanks anyway

327948 2005-02-25 02:34:00 What OS are you running? Not sure how MoveOnBoot deals with ownership security details, but have a read of this (for XP) - How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP (support.microsoft.com). If you have XP Home, you will need to boot into safe mode to perform this task. Jen (38)
327949 2005-02-25 03:38:00 You could try Delete Doctor (www.padring.com) if that dosent work I have another idea, so post back. Rob99 (151)
327950 2005-02-25 20:29:00 Thanks Rob99

Tried Delete Doctor but on re-boot the file is still there!

I've isolated the file, by moving everything else out and re-naming the folder,
so it dosent interfere with anything . But I would still like to get rid of it .

Thanks anyway .

327951 2005-02-25 20:41:00 Hi Rayplum

Did you try the suggestions given by Microsoft with changing ownership of the file first? Didn't this work for you or don't you run Windows XP?

327952 2005-02-26 00:26:00 If it were me, I would restart the comp in safe mode, then navigate and delete the file. Then restart the comp normally. I've had this problem in the past, and this always works Myth (110)
327953 2005-02-26 00:52:00 I had this problem with a corrupted image file (caused by my accidentally terminating the process with extreme prejudice) :(

Nothing would shift it until I booted with a DOS disk and deleted from the command line.

A similar problem was more easily resolved by shifting the file to another folder then deleting the folder. The file went with it!

Cheers
