327915 2005-02-24 20:06:00 ive had my computer for about 2 years. About a week ago, i disconnected everything because i had to move my compouter to another location, and when i tried to turn it on with everything connected, it doesnt start. The monitor goes on blank, but the CPU only makes a beeping sound that lasts for about 5 to 7 seconds, stops, then beeps again. The fans and lights are all still running but it continues to beep for a long time and nothing happens. I did have a virus on there but while it was on there couldnt take it off. However it was working fine beofre i disconnected my computer to move it with teh virus on. I need some help... alphacon (7428)
327916 2005-02-24 20:16:00 Hi and Welcome to PressF1 :)

When you moved your computer, something has probably come loose. Open up your computer case and make sure you are grounded (keep one hand on the metal case), and check that your RAM sticks are firmly in the slots and that the graphic card is also firmly in position. Check other cables are also in place.

If that doesn't help, then the beeps you are hearing are actually a diagnositc BIOS beep code to what the problem is. If you note down the actual pattern, eg 2 shorts beeps, 1 long beep before it then repeats, this will help pinpoint the cause. If your motherboard manual has what BIOS brand eg Award, then you can reference that beep code against its list of errors.

Post back here with your beep codes.

The Bios beeping being a complaint of not being able to find the keyboard. :)

327918 2005-02-24 20:35:00 Have a look to ensure that you have plugged everything back in the right places. Your keyboard and mouse may be reversed and possibly the monitor in the wrong port if there are two ports the same size.

What brand and model is your computer?
