328303 2005-02-26 05:23:00 What I don't understand is why -after all the marketing and advertising, etc. DSE have done, people still don't know that this one here (www.dse.co.nz) exist. Nothing wrong with its specifications. Difference being it's an Acer and have 1 year global warranty as opposed to 2. For what you are doing, I think it will be good enough. Price wise.... why pay almost twice the price for something hardly any better? techie (7177)
328304 2005-02-26 05:26:00 Are you mad?

That isn't a comparable unit.

As for marketing and advertising, good to see peoples brains haven't turned to complete mush yet.

Sorry. My suggestion wasn't aimed at being compared with the original poster' AMD lappie. I used it to compare with the A4500L. Would you still say it's not in the same league? Isn't the mobile processor just slightly slower if not equal to the Celeron 2.93?

328306 2005-02-26 08:01:00 Excellent point, I take back my words and apologise.

As to comparing the cpu's......I can't say without seeing some research, the P-M range is a different family of cpu's from the the desktop equilivents, so its hard to guess how a crippled p4 derivative would compare to a crippled P-M derivative,

tis food for thought though, and depending on user preference I can see the 2 different laptops being compared by people in that price bracket.

328307 2005-02-26 09:43:00 As far as i know and going by the stock lines DSE get em from the same place as everybody else, Goes for many other lines as well.

What DSE gets through its own supply lines is usually rebranded DSE (and its sourced through DSE in Australia, DSE NZ are no more importers then i am a salesman). You will find that once a manufacturer has a importer they wont go out of their way and do a seperate deal just for DSE.

Though i could be way off, Alan seems to have inside knowledge, maybe he might inject a couple cents.

And i wouldn't discount DSE buying an entire line from the importer.

I know they usually are supplied by Renaissance, who is the main distributor to NZ

However almost all of the ASUS model of Laptop stocked by DSE are exclusive to them

Not sure of the exact way they achieve this, but would offer an educated guess that they get whatever model they are after stocking built to their requirements on a price / feature ratio that suits them best.

This explains why sometimes you will see the same model no: ASUS laptop stocked by another supplier with different configuration to the DSE model.

Also if your after an ASUS, DSE almost always have the best deal on any model.
