329038 2005-02-28 15:31:00 I recently bought a new video card and was doing some updates on my computer before I installed it. I came across a BIOS update too. Its for an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe MB. I ran the program but nothing happened except a DOS prompt window opened then closed right after.

Long story short, computer is working fine but I have this AFUDOS.exe file on my desktop that I can't delete. When I do try it says it is in use by another program. I've tried deleting it from a Command Prompt too. Didn't work.
I have no idea what program is using it and I'm worried that it might mess up my BIOS.
How do I get rid of it?

Thanks
Rich

329040 2005-02-28 20:18:00 Afudos is a DOS based program for updating your BIOS .

For that ASUS mobo .

You're meant to make a system disk, copy afudos to a FLOPPY And copy the BIOS update to the floppy (unzip the BIOS update first) .

And boot from the floppy (change the bootdisk to floppy), to update your BIOS .

NOT update your BIOS from within Windows . the right way to update your BIOS, then is to type afudos /inameofbiosfile . Then it'll update the BIOS .

Then it's a good idea to reboot / go back into the BIOS, reset the default settings, and then save the settings . Then it'll reboot, and u go back into windows .

DONT flash a BIOS / use Afudos in Windows tho . It may freeze . Then you'll have a dead system .

329041 2005-02-28 20:34:00 Unless you have a particular problem with your motherboards functions
NEVER do a BIOS update
NEVER attempt a BIOS update unless you know what you are doing
NEVER do a BIOS update unless your boards manufacturer has recommended it & has provided good documentation with it

Although your board features a crash recovery for the BIOS it's still not a good idea unless there is good reason for it

329042 2005-02-28 20:59:00 I'll try that program mentioned to delete it when I reboot.
I'm hoping that since I've notice no change in my computers performance that just deleting the file will get rid of an uneccessary item.
