329393 2005-03-01 19:33:00 My wife has accidentally deleted one of the largest email folders on our Outlook Express 6. I thought she may have dropped it into another folder but I can't find it. It has probably about 50mB of emails in it so it should stand out when I look in Local Folders - but it's not there.
Has anyone got some ideas about how to recover it?

that should find it for you.

329395 2005-03-01 19:45:00 Nope - finds all the dbx email contents but not the main one she deleted ????? straka01 (310)
329396 2005-03-01 19:46:00 There were a lot of sub-folders in this main folder that's been deleted - the search didn't find those either????? straka01 (310)
329397 2005-03-01 20:37:00 I had thought that maybe she'd renamed it - perhaps by double clicking it with the folder name highlighted - but no - it's gone completely.

I have a notion that these folders can be restored using DOS - anyone got any ideas on that?

329400 2005-03-02 01:54:00 In OE, I have just made a folder called Test and shifted a few messages into it. I then deleted the folder, and that put it into the Deleted Items folder as an entry.Exited OE and went in again. Still there. Try doubleclick on your DE folder and see if it shows.
Hopeful in Johnsonville ...

329401 2005-03-02 02:11:00 If the emails are not in the Deleted Items folder get DBXtract from here (www.pcworld.com), point it to the deleted items.dbx folder and extract the contents. Hopefully the emails you require will still be there, provided the folder has not been compacted since the emails were deleted. FoxyMX (5)
329402 2005-03-02 04:25:00 I have used restoration.exe to locate the deleted files & folders. I have imported these into the OE folder, then I opened up OE, re-created the folder and it's sub-folder names. Going back with explorer into the OE folder - the new folders I'd created were named with xxxxx (1).dbx in each case. So far so good. Now, I deleted the new files and renamed the restored ones by adding the _(1) in each case. When I re-open OE and check the new folders some have arrived intact with all their messages but some have not? What am I doing wrong? Have the folder got corrupted? I have used the DBXtract.exe to check their contents but all seem fine - OE just doesn't want to see 'some' of the renamed folders - any ideas welcome.
By the way, I've set up OE to empty the deleted items on exit so they weren't in there to retrive when I got to the PC, (it was the first place I looked). Actually I was hoping the folder had been dropped into another folder - but it was gone. With about 8 sub-folders there would be about 15,000 email messages in it!
