2005-03-04 19:34:00 | Hi everyone. I need to replace my existing graphics card and wondered what your thoughts were on two options. I currently have a Chaintech GeForce4 MX440 63MB and am looking at replacing it with possibly one of these two: GECUBE ATI Radeon 9200SE 128Mb DDR AGP 8X TV-out DVI or Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9250 128Mb AGP 8X Video Card Does anyone have a recommendation of which card would be better out of these two? The card has to be cheap (ie under $90) to fit into my current budget so this is why I have to go low end. The other specs of my system are 1GB DDR333 Dual Channel Ram, AMD XP2200+ CPU, Chaintech 7NJL1 motherboard, XP Pro SP2

2005-03-04 19:42:00 | Thanks for that. I am looking at buying through SuperCheapPC and that gives me this as a third option: GeForce FX 5200 128Mb Would this or one of the previous two cards listed be better for me? (Use...basic use and some gaming...nothing that doesn't already work on my MX440 :) )

I would recommend the 9250 and don't even consider the FX5200 it isn't really a 3D card anyways. cheers chiefnz |

2005-03-04 21:43:00 | ive got a radeon 9600se, its fine for my purposes, i do a small amount of gaming, it plays HL2 not too bad | Prescott (11) | |
2005-03-05 01:29:00 | What Chiefnz said. It's not much of an upgrade... so why are you bothering? Unless you are doing some gaming, keep the 440. And try to avoid the 9600se. SE=Slow edition, for pretty much everything. I guess you budget will decide in the end, but a 9600pro is about $180 if you can stretch. Otherwise, my guess is you probably wont notice the difference. Wasted money?

2005-03-05 02:21:00 | thats right, i will never buy a 9600SE again, i thought it was pretty average at the time when i brought it, but i should have paid a bit more and go for that 9600pro | Prescott (11) | |
2005-03-05 03:24:00 | Unfortunately my MX440 has bit the dust and I need to replace it but the budget won't stretch to anything more than those prices (around $80) at the moment. With that in mind I have ordered the Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9250 128MB card from SuperCheapPC Do you really think this will have little to no improvement over my old MX440 64MB card?

2005-03-05 03:37:00 | Yes you should see an improvement, if you're not really hard up for a card and if your MX440 is still working I would hold off a while and save a bit more cash, if you absolutley have to buy a card then the 9250 will do but it won't be long before you're gonna want to upgrade again...I suppose you'll have to go for it. I have my old 9600XT that I'm trying to sell.... looking for at least $175.00 if you're interested jas just pm me some time. cheers chiefnz
