330257 2005-03-06 03:34:00 Don't know if it has been mentioned yet, too much pages to read.

Why don't you get it stuck on jetstreamgames?

Great idea, but I won't be downloading it on my 1gb cap, unless it goes on jetstreamgames.

Just a question, is there anything wrong with putting this on cd-rw? As new versions of this come out, I don't want to have to put each one on a new cd.

330258 2005-03-06 03:37:00 Can't change the desktop resolution, will give it another crack later when my eyes have found their equilibrium once again, yeah I'm back in Yoper, boo hiss. Murray P (44)
330259 2005-03-06 03:42:00 hmm...I got driveseek and corrupted sector errors on boot....... :D Metla (12)
330260 2005-03-06 04:53:00 Well I got to the desktop at 1024x768.

Keyboard worked this time although I did nothing different. Could not for the life of me get access to the network or the internet. Couldnt even ping the router.

eth0 was active so bit buggered about that to be honest. Might try it on the other machine.

On the upside. opened a console, ran automount and used xmms to play mp3's so that worked :)

330261 2005-03-06 05:38:00 Getting it now @ 22 KB/sec download and 20KB/sec upload.

I have 192kbps upstream, I'll seed a gig or so for you :).

330262 2005-03-06 05:40:00 Also, get it on the JSG server if you can, and put a copy of your post on the forums over there too :) george12 (7)
330263 2005-03-06 07:02:00 Be sure to memorise the rules, post in the correct forum, bow down to the mods, wear your offical telecom cap and make sure your computer is facing towards your nearest telecom exchange ;)

Man I wish having dial-up wasn't such a bottleneck :(

I'll download it, if only to upload at the same time :)

330264 2005-03-06 07:19:00 Well I have been having a wee play with Chill's new LiveCD on my spare P3 933 MHz . Have to admit had a few issues with xorg and my resolution - 640x480 @ 60 Hz is just plain nasty

Went back and forward with the xorg setup trying all options, but either busted X or ended still with the 640x480 reso . Decided in the end to manually hack the xorg . conf and had to write the lines for HorizSync and VertRefresh myself as they were missing . Then restarted X and it is all lovely now at 1024x768 @ 85 Hz

To be fair, nearly every distro so far hates my Likom el cheapo 17" CRT and I normally manually edit the xorg . conf to fine turn it .

I have a network working, but not the internet - seem to have a wee DNS issue which I am still looking at but everything seems set OK . . . ?

Anyway, my first impressions (post X battle) is that it is a lovely distro, has some nice apps like gkrellm, MPlayer and xmms . Frozen Bubble would be nice - that game is very addictive ;) The theme and colour scheme is nice .

Seeing as I can't get internet access with it at the moment, I took some screenshots and then used scp to copy them across to my main box to upload from there . I did mount my hard drive partitions as well, to copy the files there one stage, but scp is much more efficient and put them right where I could immediately access them :p

Some Screenshots:

Default Desktop ( . neoburn . net/imagef1/files/chills_iso . jpg" target="_blank">sal . neoburn . net)

Game and Music player (xmms), and gkrellm (system monitor) ( . neoburn . net/imagef1/files/chills_iso3 . jpg" target="_blank">sal . neoburn . net) .

Window Manager and Wallpaper selector ( . neoburn . net/imagef1/files/chills_iso1 . jpg" target="_blank">sal . neoburn . net)

The LiveCD is looking good so far, remembering that Chill only knocked this up in 10 hrs and it has a wee bit of fine tuning to do with the error messages etc .

Well done! :D

Torrents arent _really_ suited to Dial-Up, AFAIK Dial-Ups only Half-Duplex, which is why your speeds suck. Its great for ADSL which is Full-Duplex!

Murray, the Xkb error on startup is the one Im aware of, but thanks for reminding me - I'll look into that tonight as I start working on it from home :) Im going to give it a whirl under qEmu and see about the HD-Install process.
Ive _really_ got to sort out the X settings (Mine defaults to 1024x768, but when I did sh autox.sh auto in vmware at work it only got me 640x480).

Im going to be doing some basic website work for it tonight, but wont be doing terribly much until Ive made a _really_ good release. Right now its good, dont get me wrong, but its not the sorta thing that could be mass-used by the world, and thanks to the feedback Im getting (keep it rolling in), thats what I'll be doing!

Metla: Im not too sure why you've got those. Is it just on that one PC?

Sam I Am: Did you try: net-setup eth0
And running the Gentoo configurator?
Im not 100% sure if DHCPcd is starting on boot, but I'm writing this now as a reminder to myself to check it, because it should be...

Does anybody know who to see about getting something up on JSG for future reference that I can follow-up with a release or two down the track?

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, keep it coming in... Be rutheless! I dont expect it to be perfect this first time round!
What dont you like? What would you like to see? What _do_ you like about it? The colors? It being Gnome? The fact that Firefox is default?

Cheers guys

Chill.
