330247 2005-03-05 11:07:00 Ive found that quite often at the start of torrents (Recently I downloaded StarTrek Voyager TV-Capture Season 1) the upload seems to be rather high, but slows towards the end.

Seems rather backwards if you ask me. Logic would point to upload being greater when you've got almost the whole thing, because you have more to share...

Usually (this isnt restricting up/downloads) I get pretty close to equal bandwidth up/down. Most downloads are approx 7-8KB/s so I usually run one or two at once. Chances are its just my slow connection, I have a mate who connects to certain torrents and quite often gets a good 80KB/s!

Apparently some people have finished by the looks of it, so if you have any feedback it would be very much appreciated! The good, the bad, the ugly, the desired etc etc

Cheers

330248 2005-03-05 11:21:00 Well it runs. Couple of problems that Im sure we can iron out.

Well Done Chill

330249 2005-03-06 01:03:00 Well, I have tried it on my laptop where it runs with some errors, but I cannot get through the start WindowX command when I try it on my desktop. It refuses to allow me to enter the command sh autox.sh auto

It seems to be having a problem with recognising the character set from my keyboard, whereas this is not a problem on the laptop for some reason.

On the laptop it looks really simple and elegant. I like the layout in particular with the menus up top (reminds me of my Mac days!). I am amazed how you managed to get so much onto one CD as well! Even Firefox and a word processor included. It does make the CD drive go ape when it is firing up though so I make sure I am on power, not battery!

However, I have to say that I get a bit confused when people say that Xandros (my distro of choice) is too Windows like in comparison with other distros Chill. Whilst there are differences between yours and Xandros (and Fedora come to that) there is such a similarity between them that I am a bit confused though!

330250 2005-03-06 01:48:00 You're not the first person who's mentioned that to me now John... so chees :)

Perhaps I should look at replacing the NavynOS HW Detection scripts with the Knoppix HW detection application.

There's a few things that needa be added into the menu's, like Frozen-Bubble for example. Im not a Gnome user so I'll have to work out how to do that.

Xandros trys to look/feel like Windows in many ways, wit its file-browser etc being proprietry. Just designed to feel more like Windows does.
I know my father would freak out at the idea of a Menu being up the top for the first 15 mins or so, file-browser being different would throw him also (He's a man who doesnt like change), however with this Disro Im not trying to mask the fact its Linux, rather prove that Linux should be proud of itself because it _is_ so usable.

What about the theme/colors? Not too much are they?

I should take a screenshot or two aye... :D

Regards

Ok, glad it isn't me then! Not sure why it works on one computer and not the other as I would have thought I had the same character set running. Still, I am a klutz when it comes to things like this so you will know best.

Thanks for the other comments. And yes, I like the theme and colours. Very different to mine in Xandros, but I kind of like the moody quality in what you have done. Will try to organise a screen shot tomorrow - got a visitor today so this is just a quick time out.

Since I posted earlier, I had a go at networking, but didn't get very far. It isn't as intuitive as Xandros - in its current version, Xandros is darned near automatic like the current MacOS. It hasn't recognised my wireless card (I am trying it on a centrino equipped lappie - Xandros version 3 recognises the card now). I haven't really had time to sort out the networking properly - "had" to do a mountain bike ride and then the visitor arrived.

If any dial up folk in ChCh want me to do a CD for them rather than download, I am quite happy to supply. I work from home in Papanui, so you could let me know if you are interested and pop by.

330256 2005-03-06 03:13:00 Here's to you Chill pressf1.co.nz

Took a couple of stabs to get eth up and running and I'm still not happy with the window settings (640x480!!), but I'm posting this from Chill00 now so it's good enough eh!

Got the same error re "Activating XKB configuration, probably internal X server problem......" that I assume ypu and the others have had and, one other before it, which I assumed was that error then realised afterwards that maybe it was different, something about Gnome and internet. I logged out and back in using sh autox.sh rather than sh autox.sh auto (for diff reasons than the error) but only got the XKB one again.
