330585 2005-03-06 06:17:00 I would suggest you purchase a better modem/router, One with al least an on/off switch, or even better...one with an inbuilt firewall.

Granted its an additional cost but it maybe cheaper and less stress in the long run.

330586 2005-03-06 09:46:00 I have xtra broadband, 1g cap is gone in a few days.
The speed not much more than dialup.
Altogether a waste of time and money at the moment
The problem is that Gatling chick is useless. They need a techo as CEO of telecom so they can sort the problems out.

Yes - I have it because to 56k is annoying, It allows phone at the same time (total cost = less than just getting a 2nd line), also because it's cheaper than before, and the free connection and modem deal from telecom isn't bad either

How would you rate broadband in nz and your own country?
certainly better than 56k, although the caps and stuff is stupid

Yes I do Have Broadband at home

If broadband was cheaper in nz, would you switch to broadband?

Its not as cheap as dial up, its worth it if you can earn more than you pay for the connection on the net.

330589 2005-03-06 21:22:00 Techno - be sure to put in your assignment the reasons people use broadband. That is, for what purpose do they need higher speed internet? A couple of weeks ago someone here posted the guff about broadband in Korea - which has the most high speed internet in the world. Apparently most all users download (illegal music and videos) and are gamers. Other surveys include porn with broadband. Your teacher may discount gaming, but I believe PC World magazine has highlighted that gamers actually are the biggest (or nearly the 1st) driving force of the PC industry; so indirectly gamers have their place even though it is 'merely entertainment'.

As for me, I would get broadband if it was near the price of dial up; I am not a gamer, music downloader, etc., and my dial up goes at a good pace since I have a web filter in place.

330590 2005-03-06 21:34:00 For normal pple, some may not do heaps of downloads, play games or such. To avoid tying up the phoneline the (some) of the jetstream packages are not bad for that reason. That they are not more expensive (or not by much) than an extra phoneline and a ISP dialup subscription. JS from $40 is it?

For pple whose phoneline is not so important, some pple don't think its worth it. But yeah, looking at the results, I doubt75% of the nation uses broadband. Maybe the guys on this forum does... Just make sure you highlight that point of your target population, or your teacher may ask does some questions :D
