| 331095 | 2005-03-05 23:44:00 | I have 2 computer networks. One at work and the other at home. Both systems are connected to the Internet using Billion-7100 Modem/Routers with computers using Windows XP Pro. I would like to have a dedicated open connection via ADSL where all computers are linked and I can access files on any one computer from any other computer. I do not want to open my system to others. Is this a Windows XP procedure or a Billion setting that needs to be made or both? Any help or direction where I may fine help in this matter would be appreciated. David. | DavidFK1 (7523) | ||

You just have to put a username/pw on either end, so it'll ask u for a username and password before u login to windows . So remote desktop will work . BUT it isnt the fastest thing around . Other that that some program like PCanywhere would do this . |

Have a look here (labmice.techtarget.com) for an XP security checklist. Of particular interest should be, user and admin account and passwords, manual setup of networking (not the wizard & Simple File Sharing), avoid ICS (which by your gear I doubt you use anyway), Remote Desktop and shut down unnecessary services. For services configuration have a look at Black Viper (www.blackviper.com), which also has an XP tightening page (www.blackviper.com) |
