331072 2005-03-05 16:47:00 I have been working to recover a computer that was infested with spyware and have hit a stone wall. I went through add/remove programs and deleted everything that should not be there. Ran a full windows update, installed trendmicro pccillin and did a full scan, and then ran adaware. The computer runs much better but I am still getting occasional popups.

Also a strange problem is that I can not get the task manager to load. When I hit alt-ctrl-del it shows up for a brief moment then goes away. I am guessing I still have one bugger of a program still installed but am stuck on what I can do to get rid of it.

Has anyone run into this same sort of problem? What did you do to recover? I am really doing my best not to have to format and reinstall this machine.

Thanks for the help.

331073 2005-03-05 17:38:00 install firefox and see if you still get popups if you dont then set it as default browser........sometiems this is easier than trying to get rid of that spyware which I KNOW can be extremely hard to do.......... drcspy (146)
331074 2005-03-05 17:40:00 also .....dunno if it's relevant but try the file association fix I posted here for your task manager thing....... pressf1.pcworld.co.nz drcspy (146)
331075 2005-03-05 20:06:00 I have found HijackThis to be a valuable tool in fixing this problem. Give it a run and go through the list of processes to see if you can identify something hiding in there and get HJT to fix it. FoxyMX (5)

331079 2005-03-05 23:40:00 You can post your HijackThis log here for people to check if you wish. Make sure you close all your programs first to make it easier to read. FoxyMX (5)
