1380344 2014-07-30 08:01:00 I am shutting down a website (old install of Joomla) and saw that the error log is 36.96GB. Out of curiosity what would cause it to be so massive? That is a lot of text...

Obviously opening it to uncover the cause is out of the question.

1380345 2014-07-30 08:45:00 You could use head & tail & grep to give it a cursory examination or split or dd or such to chop it into more manageable bits if you're really interested in the content - it's just text so consequently easy to deal with using basic tools.

My guess would be extended password brute-force attempts. (edit: fail2ban is your friend :) )

Any reason to believe that server was compromised?
Excessive bandwidth usage? etc.

1380346 2014-07-30 08:56:00 Bandwidth usage is pretty consistent with the previous 6 months with the exception of downloading the entire directory as a backup. I'm not curious enough to look to far into it but thought there may have been an obvious reason. Cheers hueybot3000 (3646)
