| 1365899 | 2014-01-23 08:17:00 | Hello all, I'm whiteandnerdy (should do something about changing that, Chilling_Silence?) Thought I'd do a brief intro, I've been in and out of these forums for a long time. First thing, how I truly got into computers, I'd say it all started with Project Beast all those years ago =) I've just broken into the professional field, I'm currently a Sales and Printer technician and I was a computer technician before that. I have a diploma of computing and network support from AMES I.T. Academy and a A+ Cert, despite all that it wasn't until I was 3 months into a bachelors that I was offered a job (yeah great timing guys) I have been meddling with computers since I was 9, started doing more technical work at 16.. (I'm now 20, going on 21) I'm currently working in Hamilton at a branch office of a medium sized company, 4 branches, about 10 or so staff. We specialize in printer repairs although two of the branches do alot of computer builds and repairs (mine being one of them) I love coding, and am really good at what little I have learned, but I don't have much time for it these days; When I was going to WINTEC I was one of the top 3 (generally top 2) in my class and I found it incredibly easy to understand, however again due to time restraints I have had to stop doing that side of things. I'm almost finished on my new rig, I'll list off the specs below. Intel Core i7-4770k w/ stock cooler. Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Sapphire Radeon R9-270x Dual-X 2GB 2x 8GB DDR3-1600 CL8 memory (G.skill ripjaws blue) 500gb WD Blue HDD, 2TB Seagate 3.5" external expansion drive. Corsair Value Series 550w PSU Corsair 800D Asus DVD-RW drive(DL) w/ lightscribe. I just brought the 270x today and my next upgrades will be the following: 120gb SSD, probably reclaim my Samsung 840 Pro from my mothers laptop and replace it with a Seagate 600 for her. FSP Aurum Gold 750w Modular PSU I'm thinking another 2~4 TB of internal storage. (filled my 2tb, working towards filling my OS drive again) Anyways, done a full days work, am tired and forgot the point of this rant, but anyhow, HELLO EVERYBODY :) EDIT: I have a complaint. Origin is slow as f*** at downloading BF4, but on a good note, the mantle patch is due this month (ok they'll probably push it back to February :'( ) |

I'd be interested to know which one you enjoy more, is it fixing printers or mucking around coding? and with regards to coding, what code was it? HTML, CSS or VB script or something else? Also, if you had the chance, which one would you like to explore further and make a decent career out of? Coding or as a service tech? |

| 1365908 | 2014-01-24 00:58:00 | whiteandnerdy, do you have any experience with Dell All In One Printer 946? Specifically Auto Document Feed Problems!!! Whats the issue? As for the coding we were using 'phrogram' a horrible beginners language, I would like to learn C# or C++ in the near future, coupled with SQL and something like .ASP for frontends. I really enjoyed the coding, and the money is much greater, but for now I have a real possibility of career progression through the printer route as I am the only sales person in store with a small clientele (for the cities size) I believe I can greatly enhance our warranty service in Hamilton, the company I am with is growing quite rapidly, at the rate of atleast a branch a year so if I'm good enough I could easily become a manager or key sales person for the region I am in. |
