1366088 2014-01-27 06:53:00 Devotee worship is no worse than the legion of android fanboys determined to convince everyone that iOS is an inferior platform. Also what's the price on a new S4?

On the Telecom website:

iPhone 5S: $1049 (16GB)

Samsung Galaxy S4: $999 (16GB)

Not much in it these days, but given a choice I wouldn't buy either of these....

Yes well I guess, but personally I have not met, heard or read of such android fanboy legions, but the few Apple devotees have been most irritating (I have friends with iPhones but they are not fanatics and I / we have no problem). BTW SWMBO has an iPad; I assisted her with this purchase and I do like using it. I would never say iOS is inferior but then I am no expert on the two competing OS's.

See Johcar's post.

1366090 2014-01-27 18:18:00 Thats just sad ...

Tried Vista recently? as in the last 6 months or less? or are we all convinced it's a dog from all the bad press and experiences several years back.

Windows 7 is undeniably better than Vista, but Vista is perfectly fine these days and very similar to 7 to use. Only things really wrong with it today is the annoying implementation of UAC and the slightly higher resource use than 7 (which you don't notice on a decent PC anyway). Vista was plagued with issues on release and deserved the reputation it got, but unlike windows Millennium which was always a dog Vista has been pretty much fixed since then.

I don't use Vista either, gave my last copy to a friend to save him some money. He's very happy with it and can't tell the difference from windows 7 running on his wife's PC. It irritates me a little when people find out someone is using/likes Vista and feel the need to point out how bad it is when I suspect most of them haven't used it in years if ever. If you've had recent bad experiences with Vista, fair enough.

Nope, and I have absolutely no desire to backwards in order to try to go forwards. A turd with lipstick is still a turd.

I'm happy with using Windows 7 + IE for my site testing.

My main requirement for using Windows is to use IE and Windows 7 is absolutely fine for that

Its a piece of ****.

When my vista laptop died I was glad I no longer had to own it, Can't say that Vista ever improved over the years I owned that laptop.

W8 is also a piece of ****, but in a 100 more ways then vista.

1366095 2014-01-28 19:00:00 I can understand your wife's musically astute brain having issues with tech stuff, it's a different side of the brain.

Marketing helps but it ain't everything.

The Mac is a product of a man and a company with an intense passion for great design, hardware and an OS so a lot of that flows on to the end user.

Windows was borne from an intense passion for coding and astute business acumen.
.

In fact music and maths go together in the brain apparently......
And marketing IS everything......VHS versus Beta for instance?

The mac is a product of one guy who cam up with some innovations for personal PCs, a friend who was good at marketing and a whole lot of ideas freely given away by Xerox PARC.

Windows was a follow on from that as Mr Gates had some input in Macs O/S. DOS was a shrewd idea of leasing it to IBM rather than selling it, and the luck to buy it from it's original creator.

Marketing, yes, general acceptance as well.

QUOTE]The VHS v Beta was won by VHS because Sony wouldnt allow the porn studios to use Beta. The inferior product won. Same reason we have Bluray and not HDDVD
