1366709 2014-02-05 04:30:00 That works - provided you know how to ask the question.

Sometimes I don't know what terms to use to find out what I want to know. That is when PF1 comes to the rescue. :pYou're right there :) by simply changing one word in Google can bring totally different answers.

The following Pic can be true sometimes:

And sometimes it seems like the difference is that you used Google and they didn't even bother.

1366711 2014-02-05 04:43:00 That's funny, when I boot XP after using Windows 7 for a while it feels great, crisp fonts without all that stupid smoothing rubbish, nice clean square UI elements instead of that rounded Aero junk...

I find the exact opposite, smoothing makes things look so much better...

1366712 2014-02-05 07:06:00 For the amount of money MS spent on it and the amount of money you have to pay for it Win8/8.1 should work properly out of the box without the need for all this tweaking to make it work as it should.

Yes you can tweak it to almost work the same as previous versions but for the average Joe Blogs that's never going to happen (and you shouldn't need to) so they are going to get pi%^^d off and look at alternatives, and yes many will look to Apple and Android instead.

Which is ironic, because they'll likely end up buying the exact sort of device Windows 8 was designed for...

Too true, but it's a shame that the devices win8 was made for aren't the one using it.

I know which is why MS should have separated the two OS's, both version do what they should just they are crap when bundled together

1366716 2014-02-05 07:51:00 Metla I am surprised at you. You're a geek - upgrade the laptop to 8.1, get past the awful Start/Metro screen to the Desktop and make Win8 (almost) the same as Win7. ;)

Im ashamed because I bought my wife a crappy product, It has nothing to do with me spending my time configuring it to suit me.

Its not mine for a start.

And MS should have already made it user friendly.

1366717 2014-02-05 08:35:00 I know which is why MS should have separated the two OS's, both version do what they should just they are crap when bundled together Read the other day ( rumor mill ) that thats exactly what they are doing.

Another option is the "start button / Menu" you will have a choice of either the old style menu or the tiled as W8.1 currently is.

Again only rumors, but if true, some people will be confused as they wont know what they want

Heres a thought - Include a table-spoon as optional with the OS/Computer :D

Edited: looking back over the posts, so far two different answers to which is W8.1 & W7 in the pictures. I can tell you one answer is correct ( thats a helpful comment eh) :)
