1366689 2014-02-03 22:37:00 I hate the fact that in the kindy screen programs don't shut they hide so when you go to delete a file from the desktop you can't because its open in a program that's hiding and you thought was shut. How dumb is that? Very it would seem otherwise why would MS have done it that way. Mostly I like Win8 except for when it does dumb stuff like the aforementioned. I still would use Win7 first though

So just shut them instead of navigating somewhere else with them open....
Grab the top of the app with the left mouse button and drag it to the bottom - closed. I agree it's a step backwards for a mouse user compared to a simple close button but it's not especially difficult or time consuming in the grand scheme of things.

I'm done trying to convince the haters than Win 8 isn't that bad, stick with 7 if you don't like 8. It's that simple. For me at least once I'd gotten used to it and tweaked it's behaviour to suit myself it no longer bothers me at all. I did find going back to 8 from 8.1 on a recent install (until updating completed) felt like a backwards step in usability.

I think a good addition wether or not they bring back a start menu would be a simple way to toggle "desktop mode" where it would default all the file type associated apps to the desktop versions, set the PC to return to the desktop when closing an app, and have the PC boot to the desktop by default - all the tweaks I've made

1366691 2014-02-04 09:02:00 And here we have proof that an opinion can in fact be wrong. Yep you're right to a degree -- meaning, who says your opinion is actually correct. ? Its Your opinion not everyones.

What dugimodo and others have said about W8 /8.1 not being so bad is correct. If people get it stuck in their mindset that something is bad or not willing to learn something new, or in some cases not able to learn something new doesn't make something bad.

Its like putting a bad label on a person or race of people from a country and saying the whole country is the same - they are not.

Backon topic --- XP :xmouth: Was working on a couple of XP's today, god they felt so antiquated and horrible to use & out dated compared to the W7 & W8.1.

Well put Wainui, but what will your opinion be when MS makes radical changes to windows8 when their realise the change too windows8 was wrong. That's if the rumours are true of course.

1366694 2014-02-04 19:03:00 Well put Wainui, but what will your opinion be when MS makes radical changes to windows8 when their realise the change too windows8 was wrong. That's if the rumours are true of course. My opinion will still stay the same about W8. :)

Take Vista, many people hated it for several reasons, others didn't find it to bad, others loved it. Everyone to their own. MS then made changes to Vista, which resulted in W7. At the end of the day W7 is what Vista should have been ( going by all MS hype about it) .

Maybe they need an OS to be a not so favorable OS to make it better next time round - Who knows.

W7 or W8, personally I dont care, W8 has a few things that W7 doesn't and can do a lot better, get to quicker.

Windows 8 /8.1 really only has two faults - The metro /tiled interface and how the tiled windows work and removal of the older style start menu.

Apart from some alterations and features under the hood that a high percentage of people dont even know exist. Remove the two before mentioned faults and you have Windows 7.

The way myself and many others have W8 /8.1 setup ( and its easy to do) you couldn't tell if it were W7 or W8 /8.1.

What ever MS change in the next version, I'll just adapt to what ever it is. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the next one comes out looking more like W7, with tiles someplace, (rumored they will have the tiles able to be floating on the desktop) I have read a few rumors this time there will be different versions - 1 for Desktops, another for tablets /touchscreen devices.

The way I have the Metro /tiles setup is kind of like having a folder for shortcuts on the desktop ( but you press the windows key to open it), the majority of tiles are for things I would use often or shortcuts to open locations ( networked PC's etc) , on the desktop to keep things less cluttered ( hate lots of icons on the desktop) I have a few Icons that I use all the time.

Apart from the start button you couldn't tell if it were W7 or W8 by looking at the desktop and using the icons/shortcuts. If I posted pictures of both unless a person knew by the the icons it would only be a guess as to which was which (W7 or W8) ;)

However, if you use the keyboard, just hold down the windows/start key and press the down arrow, the file will disappear!

1366696 2014-02-04 20:40:00 because all of that makes more sense then just having it close when you close it.

What we need is for things to just pretend to happen unless you undertake further illogical actions. After all, every windows user really wants all there crap running in the background. Wait, the crap running in the background has always been the problem with windows.

This is the worlds biggest company, and its flagship product. Throwing unlimited resources at making a product worse, The result has been catastrophic, The shock waves have taken out the top of the company.

But hey, as long as someone out there likes it. it must be good.

Polish that turd all you like, but its still a piece of ****.

Just my opinion of course.
