1381110 2014-08-09 06:46:00 Sound has been lost again. Seemed to have it for a much longer time since i removed the sound drivers i had installed but has still dissapeared after a couple of days.

Have checked the Control Panel and its saying High Definition Audio Device - Default Device and has a big green tick beside it.

The only change that i can see is from the volume box thing in the bottom right hand corner. When i use this to change the volume, it lights up blue when the cursor moves up and down to show the volume change but when ive lost sound it no longer lights up blue at all even though i can move the cursor up and down still.

1381111 2014-08-09 07:20:00 I assume you mean the little audio level meter? If that's not showing up it would imply nothing is being played through the device. I wonder if there is some problem with the windows audio service. Agent_24 (57)

Thats why I suggested try running the Lappy from a Live Linux CD, no point in guessing and chasing the wrong cause.

"IF" its a hardware problem, then all the software fixes in the world wont work. :2cents:

Personally with something like this, ( in the workshop) I'd throw in another HDD, drop a fresh install of windows back in and see what happens.

1381113 2014-08-09 08:27:00 I agree, I'd go with the Linux CD first - but you already suggested that and the OP doesn't seem to want to know Agent_24 (57)
1381114 2014-08-09 09:52:00 Thank you again for the replies. Please remember i really am clueless about this stuff.

Can you recommend a good Linux Live CD to go for?

Also the sound has stopped completely even after rebooting the laptop again.

1381115 2014-08-09 23:43:00 Just a few Linux Distros ( theres a lot of them)

Mint - http://www.linuxmint.com/

Ubuntu - http://www.ubuntu.com/

Zorin - zorin-os.com

You may need to experiment a little, as not all Distros will detect all hardware automatically.

How they work, is you download a Distro, it will be a ISO file, which you will burn to a CD or DVD ( depending on the size) boot from that CD/DVD, it will then run from the CD/DVD and bypass all the windows OS.

Just a word of warning DONT tell it to install or it will wipe out your windows OS if you do something wrong. It does require a few steps to do that. AND be aware ITS NOT windows, so it will seem different if you have never used Linux before. While some tasks are the same or similar some are completely different.

If the Audio works OK and stays working on a Linux Live CD, then its a software problem within windows.
