1366126 2014-01-25 22:41:00 The first thing the locksmith would do is drill the barrel out (the thing the key goes in), is the barrel turning (or not) with the key?

Maybe one of these may help

Can you see the latch where it goes into the door frame, you may be able to force it back with something like a credit card (old one!).

Can you break into the room from a window?

1366127 2014-01-25 22:45:00 Any open or partly open windows in the room that someone could climb in through from the outside to open door from inside ?
Kinda. There is a missing stay that we might be able to get some of that plastic strapping through, if we had some.

Can you take the door pins out. If the door opens outwards the door pins should be on the outside.
It opens inward.

1366129 2014-01-26 02:46:00 Grand daughter locked her self in our spare room once when she was 2.
Key was in there somewhere but she panicked.

We could have wrecked the windows - they had those safety stays on them.
Could have wrecked the door.

Didn't really want to start with tools on either so I rang a locksmith. More calming for her too.....

He tried picking it first with picks, then got his master key out and opened it. Took about 3 minutes.

1366130 2014-01-26 02:46:00 First try getting some CRC in through the keyhole, spray a bit on the key too and wriggle it around in the keyhole. Repeat a few times. Probably the lock has gunked up over time. PPp (9511)

Not as simple as that, the lock is broken.
We have the key and it won't work.

1366132 2014-01-26 03:38:00 Some pics would be a help, for a cure from this forum

Earthquake HQ !, get locksmith and give the bill to landlord.

Locksmith came to us pretty quick when our back door would not open on account of the quakes, EQC paid in due course.

Lurking.

Ps. we adjusted the inside doors that were jammed open/shut. Belt with a hammer on 3x2 piece of wood might help you tooooo!.

lurks.

1366133 2014-01-26 03:50:00 It looks kinda like this.
Handle is kind of different but the collar is the same as is the latch thing.
Also has the same type of lock with a key on one side and a turn knob on the other.

I don't see how a pic of a locked door can help.

Pretty sure the door handle has to come off but I am reluctant to do so without landlord's say so to indemnify myself from damage.

1366134 2014-01-26 04:06:00 Just had a look at the handle on the wash house door, ours have door knobs, not handles ( this was so the dog couldn't jump up and open them) , it has a small hole as well as a slot on the rosette, both inside and outside of the door.

Found the following, it tells you how to get into the assembly: www.ehow.com Yours will be similar (or should be)

1366135 2014-01-26 04:10:00 Just a thought. Have a look on the underside of the collar against the door. Sometimes there is a small press-in release that will allow you to release the collar so it pulls toward you. If that happens, there should be a square rod that connects the two handles. If you withdraw the rod so that it just engages the lock in the centre of the door, you should be able to use it to open the said door. Hope that works. Bryan (147)
