I think he is an ideal fit for MS. From what I have read his background is in the server and cloud space which is kinda where MS has been (apart from the desktop OS) rather than the hand held gadget space which they have proven to be completely crap at so far and will probably continue to be crap at for some time to come.

I see Microsoft continuing to fumble on their current path for some time, mainly because they don't know how to compete on a level playing field with other more nimble footed competitors because it's not in their DNA.

1366848 2014-02-04 21:06:00 I give him 2 years of being 100% ineffective before he disappears.....

And the 2 years is simply the board keeping him there so they don't also look ineffective and directionless.

The latter option would be more likely and would be staying true to Microsoft's form of the past. They have a tendency to try to be all things to all people.

1366852 2014-02-05 19:07:00 He reputedly to "Loves test cricket".
M$ will be fielding a team? If so, it could comprise 73 players batting, 1725 fielding, 285 bowlers, 4280 management staff, 953 lawyers and require a triangular ground 750 M on each side. Security would be two regiments of cavalry, but the big changes would be in the scoring where all players (except the lawyers) from both sides would be guaranteed to lose every game. Bats and balls would no longer be permitted due to animal and human rights concerns. The new rules would run to 55 volumes and would expressly prohibit everything that is not mandatory.
