Tahuna beach had one with a slide I remember as being about 90' high. Probably wasn't but it sure was really, really high for a kid....as in if you hit the ground you'd break something for sure.
This the old style metal slide with no sides.

And a twirly thing, whatever they are called. It was triangular from a central pole, seats round the bottom, it spun round like a clothesline and also tipped back and forth.

That was on the hard packed sand and when you got on, if you didn't pull your legs up, and when the older boys got it going 90 miles an hour and back and forth, if it came down and your legs were down, they'd be smashed into a hundred pieces.

But we weren't dumb...we all took care.
Well usually, I remember not taking care when we sneaked in the back of the speedway and sat where we could have been killed.
