| 1365873 | 2014-01-23 05:45:00 | I listed an auction with a mint condition (still works in Win7 with an available LPT port) portable printer with unopened ink cartridges that's been sitting for yrs but I withdrew it. Might get $10 if I am lucky. Maybe easier with computers than peripherals liek the printer that can still work with a newer computer. How do you guys manage it? With eDay I see people queuing just to throw away stuff, I doubt most of the stuff thrown away are not working; laptops, PCs, cellphones, LCD monitors. Our stuff have been 10yr old PCs that's been in storage for 3yrs so 7yrs of usage. The new stuff are so much better in so many ways but fundamentally the essential stuff have not changed much. A 10yr old PC, can still get online and Facebook and Youtube. A old Smartphone worth $50 if that today, essential things are just phone calls, SMS, smart activities like emails and IM chats; games and videos are just luxuries ... Not buying that $1,000 device over 10yrs would generate $300 in interests a sum of $1,300 compared to a $25 (if that) unwanted door stop. | Nomad (952) | ||

Actually my dad was using it just 4yrs ago or more with the 5110 before he got a free color non smart phone. |

At least *most* of my stuff has had a lot of use so I generally get my money's worth out of it. Vehicle values are the same. As soon as you drive around the block in a brand new car it loses a couple of thousand dollars in value for a start. So they say anyway, I have never had the pleasure of finding out. :rolleyes: :p | FoxyMX (5) | ||

Better than leaving it gathering dust. Ditto. At least with selling something, even for dirt cheap, there is hopefully a greater likelihood that it will be used than if it were given away. |

Passed that onto son.... I don't like budget cameras and after looking at the offerings new, bought a old (but still younger than our old one) very nice one off Trademe for bugger all. Ditto cellphones.......we both own old ones, bought off TM or second hand shops. They do us just fine. |

| 1365880 | 2014-01-23 18:50:00 | I have a 955, M4A77TD pro, 2x 2GB DDR3, HD 5450 and Scythe Katana 4 (both of the last ones are quite news, only a few months old) and yet I don't think I'd even get a hundred for them, let alone the $150 I was hoping for... :'( | whiteandnerdy (17120) | ||

Still good and a useful spare to lend to visitors since it still performs the essentials of phone calls and SMS. |
