331788 2005-03-08 02:23:00 If my XP Home edition PC is left for some time so it hibernates or even just goes onto standby - whatever I have set it to do; no problem there - most times I will be unable to access the internet - from either Firefox or IE.

This happened on my last PC also and it's fixed by a re-boot but a permanent fix would be greta - any ideas, please??

331789 2005-03-08 02:30:00 Is SP1 or 2 installed at all?? Or any XP updates ?

Or have u got a firewall like Norton Internet security, coz this will block access to the net, even tho u can connect to your ISP. It likes shutting one of its files/services down, when it feels like it. This will also stop u using a browser. Or browsing.

Click start then connect to then show all connections, then right click your isp icon in dialup and then click options,Set the idle time befor hanging up

331791 2005-03-08 03:38:00 this is a shot in the dark, but.....Do you play Counter Strike Source online ?.

that piece of trash called Steam kills my internet connection, and i have to reboot to get the net back.

331792 2005-03-08 04:18:00 Hey, I should have said that my email (Outlook) will send and receive OK but I can't acess the net through either browser .

Seems a strange one to me . . .

I use Zone Alarm, have XP firewall -
off of course, and AVG anti-virus .

I have SP2 installed but had the same problem with the last PC, before SP2 was even heard of .

I don't play games on line, (too tricky for this guy!) and this has happened with both dial-up and ADSL connections - I'm picking it's a XP glitch or setting .
