332149 2005-03-09 03:33:00 My Belkin ADSL modem comes with a built in firewall. The default setting for the firewall is "enabled"
With the firewall enabled I can not send e-mail. :badpc: :badpc:
Everytime I have the power off the modem sets itself to enabled.
PROBLEM: I never remember to disable it until I tear my hair out trying to send mail.
Question: Is there any way I can permanantly disable the firewall?

332150 2005-03-09 03:38:00 Can you configure which ports it blocks? If so open ports 25 (SMTP), 143 (IMAP) and 110 (Pop3).

This should allow you to send and recieve email without the firewall causing any issues.

332151 2005-03-09 03:44:00 Is there not some sort of 'Save Configuration' option in the modem 'control panel' so that the setup is remembered even if you re-power?? (Not familiar with the Belkin, but the Dynalinks have it). Terry Porritt (14)
332152 2005-03-09 03:45:00 I have no idea what port it uses or how to set it up.
Further I have no idea how to open the ports you mention. The belkin entry in program manager contains just one *.dll file. So I can't do anything in there.

332153 2005-03-09 03:49:00 The only adjustment on the firewall page of the modem set up is "enabled" and "disabled".
You set which you want and then press "submit".

332154 2005-03-09 04:00:00 According to this site:www.5star.net.nz

and assuming your modem is the model 8131 or similar, it says, "• Configuration, management, and firmware updates via Web Browser Interface"

I would bet a pound to a penny that somewhere in the "Web Browser Interface" there will be an option to save whatever settings you make, so that 'firewall disabled' is saved.

There must surely also be provision for setting rules in the firewall, and customising it, so that the email ports could be opened.

Maybe a case of studying the help or manual, or contacting Belkin and asking how it could be done.
