2005-03-09 03:10:00 | Hopefully u have the CD. Chuck the CD in the cdrom. You have to go into the BIOS and change bootdisk to CD. Save the settings reboot. CD will boot, u may see a message on the post screen saying press a key or similar. (press a key ONCE - NOT everytime the XP install reboots). Do that. Let XP do its thing, until it finishes installing. Then change the bootdisk back to hard drive, once XP has been installed. Thats it. Just remember to get what u want OFF the hdd, before u reformat it.

2005-03-09 03:12:00 | Oh, ok. Thanks. Pushing F8 when i restart the computer, it says how would you like to boot, rater than safe mode options etc, so if i picked the CD Rom drive from that, would that do it? | Tribomb (5547) | |
2005-03-09 03:16:00 | If that system is an ASUS, (like a P4P800), then yes it is F8, (And the delete key), if u have an ASUS system, then select CD-ROM. As the boot disk. F8 on this mobo, will let u boot (it brings up a menu, with bootable devices), and it's also for getting the menu for safe mode etc. You just have to wait a bit longer to press F8 to get into the menu which shows safe mode.

2005-03-09 03:39:00 | good luck.......you are aware that formatting removes ALL the data from the pc ?..........and reinstalling windoze wont reinstall your office/works/etc etc programs..........and then you got possible problems with drivers for your video /sound/modem/motherboard.......what makes you want to format it ? | drcspy (146) | |
2005-03-09 03:47:00 | Yeah. I am formatting because I got a virus, i am not sure it has gone, my computer is still going slow even after all the scans have been done, and all other things done. I have all the drivers right here, the computer is new, so I have the drivers all here :D And I still have office, it is able to be used on three PCs, so it should be Ok, and I will just download everything that i use again. | Tribomb (5547) | |
2005-03-09 04:09:00 | You MUST have a firewall enabled before going back on the internet after the reformat so if you don't have a MS SP2 upgrade disk just remember to have a firewall handy on a CD to install immediately after reformatting and BEFORE you go on the internet or you will be back to square one again. | FoxyMX (5) | |
2005-03-09 04:48:00 | Have you backed up all your data????? Why don't you just get AVG Free and run a full system scan? It scares me when people talk so blithely about reformatting, having done it once when upgrading from W95 to W98 SE I wouldn't do it lightly.

Do not let this writer's bad experience put you off expanding your competence in computers. My first reformat which was well researched and planned, and with the help of an experienced friend, was the most exciting thing I have ever done with a computer. It opened up a whole new world of freedom from the fear of not knowing what to do in the event of a major crash or virus hit. It also encouraged me to start to learn how all the bits are put together and how to research the web for answers when things went wrong. There is little that can go wrong with your computer system software that can't be put right with a reformat and you will have the huge bonus of being able to do it all yourself without having to pester more able friends or pay a professional to do it for you. If you can read you can do a reformat images/icons/icon14.gif |
