| 331943 | 2005-03-08 20:38:00 | From time to time, my relatively new hp/compaqnx9040 running XP Professional, loses the com1/lpt1 ports. The ports are still available under DOS and in Safe Mode, and often a reboot will restore them into normal Windows mode. Norton is negative on viruses, Spybot is clean. Any suggestions? :help: |

| 331944 | 2005-03-08 20:45:00 | I would check the BIOS. See what the com port/printer settings/LPT settings are on. Also, look in device manager under the com port/s /printer/LPT entries. Does it say theyre alright under device manager?? I take it u use both this comport and the printer port, why u noticed they disappear once in a while?? |

| 331945 | 2005-03-09 00:11:00 | Device manager has lost its listing of these ports when they disappear. BIOS appears to be alright. I only use the com port, but both are listed in the device manager which indicates that they are working correctly when they are visible. |
