331848 2005-03-08 09:59:00 I'm having a problem with flash. I'm trying to help my friend with a flash file, and I haven't used flash in a long time. Just now when I tried opening his file, it said "Unexpected File Format".... its a .fla so I don't know what the problem is. Anyone know what it could be? Slacker (5977)
331849 2005-03-08 10:06:00 is .fla a Flash extension? Try, right click > Open With and select SWF.exe in the resulting dialogue box.

Edit: your right about .fla. Have a look here (www.flashjester.com) if the above doesn't do it for you.

331851 2005-03-08 10:30:00 Have you scanned it with antivirus first off? Do you mave Flash (www.macromedia.com) installed? Hit the products, FAQ's and download buttons on the posted link for more info, players and tools.

Actually, this link (www.macromedia.com) might be better to find the right player for you.

331852 2005-03-09 01:31:00 "Unexpected File Format" means just that. The programme doesn't like the actual format of the file. ;)

Filename extensions like ".FLA" are just that ... file name extensions. If the actual file contents are not in exactly the right format most programs will cough.

331853 2005-03-09 20:05:00 has your friend got an newer version of flash than you have on your machine?
i suppose this could cause problems..

i'd get your friend to resend you the file, perhaps something has corrupted the file along the way.

331854 2005-03-10 13:59:00 I agree with Mary, seems as if there was a corruption along the way, get it resent again (check the size of the file with your m8 and the size you received – probably different) Double check the version's of flash been used (although I used flash 5 and MX and both work fine together) If you want to do some work for your friend you will need the .fla file (which is the editable file for flash) .swf is only the movie side of things (which you would put online) JohnEire (4670)
