| 332178 | 2005-03-09 05:12:00 | Same here There is a workshop manual for this model avaiable on the acer site which i downloaded last night and gives comprehensive instuctions on how to do everything (including stripping the screen down to its base components ) but nothing on hard drive removal which i also want to do. removing every screw in sight, the floppy and cd rom still leaves me with the feeling you have to use a crow bar to prise off the keyboard and surround. |

| 332179 | 2005-03-16 20:40:00 | Hehehe. I was in the same boat but I got the little monster appart. There is a major trick to it. With the laptop open and facing you like you are going to use it. Look at the lower left of the screen where it joins the body of the laptop. Right about the F2 3 and 4 keys you will see a small one inch wide plastic joint. Place a flat head screw driver over the F2,3,4 keys and just under that little one inch wide (2.5cm) plastic joint. It will have seams on both sides. Pry it up. It will snap and pop. No you did not kill it. Now lift the plasic thing up by rolling it back under the hinge of the screen like a roll top desk. It will not come off. You don't need to take it off. Just push it up out of the way. Now look to the right about 6 inches. (35cm) Just over F10 F11 Key you will find a small hole at the end of long thin piece of plastic. Put the screw driver in the little hole and slide it to the left. Not much resistance here. This will now move the thin piece of plastic past where the piece you rolled up on the left. Just lift up and out of the laptop now. Now look at the place that the small thin piece came from. With your fingers (if they are small) If not find a small child or two flat screw drivers and pry the key board up and off the laptop from the top above the F keys. The whole keyboard will resist on the left and right sides. Near the caps lock and back slash keys. They will pop lose easly. A little foce but you will not need to use a pry bar or anthing. :badpc: The keyboard should now be lose and upside down in your lap or bench. If you want pull the ribbon cable from the mother board and set the keyboard asside. It's not nessary but it does just get it out of the way. Now you will see some metal shielding over the mother board. Unscrew any phillips screws from the shielding and slide it to the left and then lift it away. Now right in the middle of the laptop is the dang hard drive. There will be one more screw on the lower right of the hard drive. Just remove last screw and them pry the hard drive up from the lower right. The frame of the Hard drive plugs into the mother board in the lower left of the Hard drive. Just wobble it free and then you got it out to replace it. ;) There you go have fun and reverse it to put it back to gether. Now for my question. What kind of connecter does the CPU use for this laptop. It looks like a MMC1 but the chip is very short. I would like to upgrade it but I can not find a chip that will fit in the hole. I know it's a 266MHz P2 but if I can find a Celeron to get it up to say 466. So much the better. Thanks hope this helps. Joe. :D |

| 332180 | 2005-03-17 06:52:00 | Wow that was an excellent tutorial which confirmed what I thought--- They start with the hardrive and build the comp around it in much the same way they do with japanese car stereos. Did you find out how to do it online or through trial and crowbar ? :D Thanks By the way the cpu isn't a p2 in this baby its a fairly rare p1 mmx 266 so your buggered for any chance of upgrading. |
