332052 2005-03-09 00:49:00 I have a friend who has a Compaq Presario 3200. It's a desktop case... the slimline ones. Now the power supply for this case is shot and I rang Compaq/HP to find out if I can get a replacement.. only problem is it's gonna cost $250.00. Needless to say I'm not willing to spend that kinda money on a PSU.

I've been around to a few computer stores with the case to see if I can find a replacement PSU. To my surprise I couldn't find one. I think I've been through every brand name PSU there is and still no luck. Looks like the case is specifically designed for Compaq/HP parts only.

Now my next option is to move the existing PC parts into a tower case which I have spare. The PSU is good and the case itself is only 3 months old. My dilemma is this, the Compaq case has the MS Certificate of Authenticity on it with the Windows ME CD-Key on it. Obviously removing it is going to damage the sticker.

Can I just write the number down somewhere for safe keeping so that I can move the parts into the new case or should I risk taking the sticker off the Compaq case.

Any ideas and thoughts appreciated.

cheers

332053 2005-03-09 00:53:00 Write it down?

hell yes.

Remove the sticker?

Hell yes, Use a razor blade.

Personally I think the entire "attach sticker that can't be removed" to the case idea is a joke.

332054 2005-03-09 00:55:00 get some tinsippers and CUT around the C.O.A and then rivet it onto the new case ......that way you wont risk damaging the cert....... drcspy (146)
332055 2005-03-09 00:59:00 Yer I wouldnt even bother putting the COA on the case. Even if MS say so.

I'm not spoiling a pc case, just to make them happy.
