333364 2005-03-12 07:50:00 A little while ago I pasword protected some work in a MS Word document. I cannot remember the password, it is in that extremely "Safe Place", somewhere. How can I get around?remove?change this pw in XP Home? Thanks PJ Poppa John (284)
333365 2005-03-12 07:57:00 Nope the pw in word has nothing to do with the pw in windows.

Unless the pw u gave the doc, is the same as what u use for XP.

This MAY work

http://www.freewordexcelpassword.com/ and its free.

The only thing is, by the looks of it u need .net framework which i think is 20mb + to use it.

333366 2005-03-12 08:01:00 The password is ONLY for the Word doc. No PW on the computer. PJ Poppa John (284)
333367 2005-03-12 08:03:00 It may work then , it should work for word and excel pw's.

BUT I dont think it'll run, if u dont have .net framework installed.

333368 2005-03-12 08:26:00 Trying to download that programme gives an error message "The file may be corrupted or invalid" Damn PJ Poppa John (284)
333369 2005-03-12 08:32:00 It definitely isnt corrupt.

I've downloaded it and installed it. It ran fine.

Did u get the 237k file?? Sounds like it didnt download properly if that error came up when u unzipped it.

333370 2005-03-12 09:09:00 Hi PJ
Open the document. Edit-Select all. Copy.
Open a blank document. Paste. The new document is often not protected.

Did I miss something here?

If PJ could actually open the document, he would not have a password problem?
Presumable the password stops him opening it.

333373 2005-03-12 09:56:00 Post was not specific, but you can have a readonly password which would prevent updates, to which the copy paste to a new doc would help. I assume that the problem was that document can not be opened. I've used Advanced Office Password Recovery from Elcomsoft in the bast to unlock and unprotected Office Docs.
