i just thought i would try a new IM, i had a look around and i got Gaim, it doesnt seem too bad but i have one problem...... i cant seem to sign in with my gmail address, but in msn 7 it does work. so im thinking its a setting somewhere. can someone show me how to get it going? 		Prescott (11)

Run Gaim, hit the "Accounts" button and it will list the im protocols it can connect to. Last time I looked, Gmail was not on that list. 		vinref (6194)
333353 2005-03-12 06:14:00 I am presuming the Win32 Gaim is similar to the Linux Gaim. Open up Gaim and go to Tools > Accounts. Make sure you have set up the MSN account correctly including choosing MSN as the protocol. Your screen name is where you put your gmail details. Jen (38)

MSN Options
login server: messenger.hotmail.com (i have also tried gmail.google or gmail instead of hotmail but it still doesnt go)
Port: 1863

when i try to sign on it says:
unable to unthenticate: type your email address and password correctly. If you havent registered with a .NET passport, click the get passport link. (but there is no link)

my gmail account does have a passport

this is weird, msn messenger accepts other email accounts, but Gaim wont accept Gmail...

I know others who are using Gmail and Gaim and what you've put seems correct.

Ive edited my MSN Email Address for spam reasons. Just put it in as though you were emailing yourself
Ive changed my password too
You dont have to have the <buddyicon> field, you can simply remove that line.

Try manually adding it and seeing what results you have.
Ive been a Gaim user for approx 2 years now, since 0.59, its great - Never looked back :)

Goto passport.net and click Sign-In
Type your email and password

You sure you're using the correct passport, for the .NET passport and not your gmail email password??

i thought my password was the same as my gmail password but it wasnt, i reset it and then signed in and it worked. and now to enjoy the Gaim IM experience.....
