333183 2005-03-11 10:49:00 I would like to store a used Canon S9000 printhead so that I can use it again in six months or so. How should I prepare it for storage? miguel-m (7566)

I think the important bit,is the stuff that sticks on the head, sort of cellotape.

Other threads suggest flushing with distilled water (so you don't get lime deposits).

On opening my new HP ink cartridges, there is a piece of tape stuck to head, this will stop air allowing the ink to harden.

333188 2005-03-12 01:16:00 Clingwrap is probably your best bet. But it's still a bet. Inkjet cartridges aren't meant to keep. ;) Printheads have similar problems.

HP and some other manufacturers have made boxes to hold the cartridge of black or colour which isn't in use at the time in printers which held only one cartridge. But that was for short-term storage.

Thinking about it, it wouldn't hurt to keep a clingwrapped unit in a snaplock bag which has some cottonwool or something similar which is kept wet to maintain a high humidity. (You don't want to "drown" the head. ;)) It is ink drying in the fine channels which is the main problem when a prinhead becomes useless.

Also, keep it cool.
