| 332925 | 2005-03-11 00:06:00 | Good afternoon all Ok I will explain the problem first I have several hundred images (of machinery parts, not anything dodgy) they are labelled as follows ab12345.jpg ab6543.jpg abwxdfg3.jpg etc now I need to replace the 'ab' part with 'abc', now every program I have looked at allows me to add prefixes to image filenames or remove spaces from them, but I can't find one that allows me to remove the existing prefix, so if anyone knows one preferably free, (or a common commercial programs as i have access to some of these through contacts). I know I can manually change them, but batch processing would be much easier Thanks Nigel |

| 332928 | 2005-03-11 00:45:00 | I use Renameit! which should do what you wish . You browse to and select your files, create a rule, view the expected results and if OK allow it to go ahead and rename them . The rule you would be wanting is Crop but if your file names are various sizes you are going to be careful how you set it up . I strongly suggest experimenting with a bunch of copied files to get the rule right before you do the lot . You can grab the program from here ( . freedownloadscenter . com/Utilities/File_Maintenance_and_Repair_Utilities/RenameIt_ . html" target="_blank">www . freedownloadscenter . com) but I see that is version 2 . 04 whereas I have 2 . 06 and I can't remember it being shareware . It is by the same author though . |

That's a cool feature I never knew existed! Just tried it and worked a charm on a test bunch of files. |
