333105 2005-03-11 09:01:00 After saving a bunch of work (MS Works documesnts) from an old Win ME machine before it died... I am now having trouble getting any programs to recognise the files.....

I am about to purchase MS Ofiice academic version tomorrow... will this be able to load the files or will they stil not be recognised...?

Is there any program that will convert between formats for me...

The old computer with MS Works is now dead so I cannot load the documents on that to convert them....

Anyone have any ideas....

Thanks Mantis.

333106 2005-03-11 09:05:00 Which version of Works was it?

Word 2000 can open Works 4.0 files and save them as Word docs, and I don't think it is limited to V4.0 either, I have opend V3.0 files successfully. Similarly, Excel 2000 can open Works spreadsheet files.

Cheers

333108 2005-03-11 09:14:00 What is the extension on the works documents?
If word won't open the files, other programmes will be around that should be able to.

333109 2005-03-11 09:18:00 The extension is .wps

I havn't managed to find a program yet that will open them...

Openoffice won't recognise them either...

333110 2005-03-11 09:29:00 .wps is a Microsoft Works text document extension - Word should open them fine. Greg (193)
333111 2005-03-11 09:37:00 Word will open them, and I think Open Office should too. This (www.thebeatlesforever.com) program will convert them for you if you wanted to stay with Open Office instead of buying MS Office :) 4bes (2848)
333112 2005-03-11 09:41:00 If it doesn't work... there is a converter available that allows Word to open it..

Works File Converter (www.microsoft.com)

Hope this helps
