333539 2005-03-13 02:37:00 It basically means that you have antother computer on the network that has the same name. Just simply change the hostname of the system. What operating system are you using? ILikeLinux (1669)

333541 2005-11-13 16:54:00 Hey, I'm having the same problem. Every time I attempt to type in my password, I'm getting a message saying "Windows System Error: Duplicate name exists on the network." I went to the Control Panel and changed the name of my user account, but it didn't help and the message keeps popping up on my desktop. Any ideas?? Thanks. dhamyanthi (7578)
333542 2005-11-13 17:29:00 Its not the main user name that message / error is talking about .

Its the name under my computer / properties / computer name, that its talking about . This is, if you're on a home network/lan .

If you use XP . Click on change under computer name . And change the computer name .
