| 333462 | 2005-03-12 22:02:00 | So, this installer carries out the basic steps as per the Handbook? And, if you were wanting to have a look at Gentoo it would give you that opportunity without as much work as following the Handbook method manually but, would negate any desire to learn more about Linux and specifically Gentoo? |

| 333463 | 2005-03-12 22:08:00 | Ah but with the Handbook, it gives me the _basics_ I need to get it going. I can then expand on the handbook and install gcc-3.4.x, or even the new gcc-4! I can adjust LDFLAGS then too, for faster optimised load times. I can use the Intel C-Compiler (icc) should I wish I can use non-standard root filesystems (reiser4), or use my fav love-sources right from the word go ! Thats why Gentoo is still appealing! |

So when is this installer likely to appear? 2005.0? The release after that? And what are the love-sources? Just a standard kernel heavily patched? |

I might have a chat with redeeman and see if he's keen to help. love-sources were started by Lovechild, they're performance patches for Desktop use. They were some of the few kernels that included reiser4 support while it was still in testing. The latest release (2.6.11-love1 or -love2) has been made by the new maintainer Fallow, and he's done an absolutely superb job. Chaosite ran burnP6 at a nice of -20 and carried on surfing on his Centrino 2.6Ghz, so they its _very_ good at multitasking!! If you've got IRC, join us in #love-sources on irc.freenode.net |

I'm sure I would be agreeing with you chill if I could understand any of it. God that sounds geeky. The Highlander (aka Mr Thicky :@@: ) |
