2005-03-16 00:14:00 | After all the propaganda about it in the latest PCW, I just had to try it. But my own webpages doesn't work well :groan: For example in my CSS, this: body { background-color:"#f0fff0"; } doesn't result in a nice light green background with Firefox, as it does in IE. Anyone know why? And I've found Firefox likes /, but not \ for files (e.g., src="sub/image.png" is OK, but src="sub\image.png" is not), whereas IE takes either. What else, I wonder? Derek

2005-03-16 00:33:00 | After all the propaganda about it in the latest PCW, I just had to try it . But my own webpages doesn't work well :groan: For example in my CSS, this: body { background-color:"#f0fff0"; } doesn't result in a nice light green background with Firefox, as it does in IE . Anyone know why? Because your code is not correct and therefore not standards compliant . This is the correct code: body { background-color: #f0fff0; } And I've found Firefox likes /, but not \ for files (e . g . , src="sub/image . png" is OK, but src="sub\image . png" is not), whereas IE takes either . Again, it is not the correct code and therefore not standards compliant . The slashes need to be this way: / . Internet Explorer is not strict about standards compliance which promotes sloppy code when pages display OK even though the code is poor . Firefox and Opera will not display incorrectly coded pages properly so it is a good idea to use them rather than Internet Explorer to check how your webpages look . It is also a very good idea to get your pages validated by the W3C Markup Validation Service (http://validator . w3 . org/) to ensure they are standards compliant .

2005-03-16 01:34:00 | I have used Firefox for a week or so as default browser (Big Trial), but have gone back to IE (forgive me) because of my annoyance at the browser reacting in a strange manner if I use the scroll wheel to zoom to the bottom of the page and also I tends to remember some of my passwords but not others even though I have asked to remember them. Another thing it does is not to return to my place on a web page after I have opened and then closed a link so I then have to scroll down to find my place again. I might be being picky but I find these things annoying, is there anyway I can get it to behave itself??

2005-03-16 01:47:00 | I've been using firefox since it was phoenix and when I need to I can hardly operate IE anymore. The last time I had troubles with passwords not being remembered was when the password box was java or in a frame. What version did you use?

2005-03-16 01:51:00 | Just download and give Opera a try and you are unlikely to have those issues . The latest, Beta, version has given me no problems at all so far and is much nicer than the previous versions: . opera . com/download/?ver=8 . 0b2" target="_blank">www . opera . com

2005-03-16 21:19:00 | I was somewhat surprised that for all the people saying how great firefox was that no-one came up with a response to my earlier query (in this thread) regarding FF problems except to suggest that I switch to Opera (which I have tried previously and found wanting) . Does or has anyone else has/had similar problems? What did you do to remedy them? Do you just live with them Rob  <Quote-I have used Firefox for a week or so as default browser (Big Trial), but have gone back to IE (forgive me) because of my annoyance at the browser reacting in a strange manner if I use the scroll wheel to zoom to the bottom of the page and also I tends to remember some of my passwords but not others even though I have asked to remember them . Do you just live with them Nope, I just use Opera . :D Seriously though, it probably means that other people have not experienced these problems and therefore don't know how to fix them . The annoyance regarding not returning to your place on a previous page is a Firefox "feature" which annoys the heck out of me as well but does not occur in Opera . Sorry that you did not find Opera to suit you, I wasn't aware that you had already tried it . Actually I think I will now shut up about promoting Opera as I have had quite a bit of flak for it from a number of people . Obviously very few share my view of it being a superior browser but that's life I guess .

2005-03-16 22:51:00 | . . . I think I will now shut up about promoting Opera as I have had quite a bit of flak for it from a number of people . . . Don't do that . Thankfully each browser has it supporters and distractors . I use Firefox and respect Opera, as good alternatives to IE which has many faults . There are a couple of other lessor known alternatives too, but these 2 are worthy of respect and support . I also use the "moox" ( . ws/tech/mozilla/mdefs . htm" target="_blank">moox . ws) variant and it is really fast with code optimised for my particular processor .
