334577 2005-03-15 23:48:00 Hi there

I have Maxtor HDD DiamondMax Plus8 40GB ATA/133. It was working ok, but now PC with WinXP stopped to detect it. With other HDD it works ok. It happened after I changed it from slave to master. Is it lost or I have made some mistake? And can it be fixed?
Thanks for help.

Regards

334578 2005-03-15 23:50:00 What happens if you change it back? Rob99 (151)
334579 2005-03-16 01:11:00 It did not help. When I first change to master I got an error message that there is a foult that can damage my computer. Ireturned to the other HDD that was the master, but then Win would not recognize it eather. It stopped detect CD ROM too. Can't even get to Bios now. taly (5956)
334580 2005-03-16 01:55:00 Sorry, got to the BIOS. Was looking for Autodetect, on assumption that it is desabled, but not found this function. Have seen it in WIN 98. Can it be that there is a virus in BIOS?
BTW, should the Virus alarm be enabled in BIOS?
(My op sys now is WIN XP home)

334581 2005-03-16 02:34:00 No the virus alarm shouldnt be enabled in the BIOS. It can screw things up.

The option MUST be in the BIOS something, (Primary Master and slave), and secondary master and slave.

If you only have one hard drive, jumper it to Master (put it on the Primary IDE connection), and then configure it in the BIOS on Primary IDE / Auto.

So the BIOS knows the hard drive exists.

Just make sure you dont jumper 2 IDE devices as a Master, or slave. You may screw things up, if u do.

334582 2005-03-16 07:13:00 Hi Gonzales!

Have done that. One HDD, jumper on Master, Bios on Auto/... But PC stops after it shows"Primary muster disk none

334583 2005-03-16 07:33:00 When u put it on Auto in the BIOS Taly, does it show the name/brand of the hard drive in the BIOS??

If u dont see the hdd in the BIOS, is the power connected, to the hard drive??

If it says NONE, are u putting the PRIMARY Master on AUTO, NOT the Secondary Master on AUTO in the BIOS??

334584 2005-03-16 08:07:00 Try another cable - if the cable gets damaged even slightly it can prevent the BIOS/Windows picking up the HDD. wintertide (1306)
334585 2005-03-16 14:20:00 i had a problem exactly the same before, it happened twice to me with 2 different hard drives. all you have to do is go to command prompt and use diskpart to give the disk a drive letter.

are you using a dell pc?

334586 2005-03-16 19:12:00 Try putting them back the way they origionally were, get into the BIOS and disable SMART. Chilling_Silence (9)
