334519 2005-03-15 19:20:00 I have a Compaq Presario 2100 Laptop. After one year of successful trouble free usage it has developed a problem. I can no longer connect to the Internet using the dial-up modem. I get an error message telling me the password is no good. The same user name and password (netzero) work fine on any other machine. Cutting and pasting the user name and password from a text file doesn't affect the problem. Using another, new ISP (yahoo) does not affect the problem. I have been in touch with HP tech support and made all the possible changes to the pull down menu selections they suggested without affecting the problem. I can hear the modem dialing out and hear the laptop connecting successfully with either of the ISP computers. Then I get the error message. HP tech support suggested taking the unit to be serviced. i will do that as last resort if anybody out there thinks it is worth it. I have taken the machine apart and discovered the modem is part of the motherboard. any suggestions? SteveSchmitt (7603)
334520 2005-03-15 19:23:00 get yourself an external serial/usb modem ? drcspy (146)
334521 2005-03-15 19:24:00 preferrably just borrow one to test out wether it connects if it does this may certainly point to the possibility that your internal one is dyin drcspy (146)
334522 2005-03-15 19:26:00 That error does happen sometimes, after you've connected to the ISP. I would ring the ISP to ask them to fix it.

It does still go, (the modem) doesnt it??

Since u can dial up...Its after u connect to the ISP, that error appears??

You're not using caps are you?? The caps lock is on?
