334292 2005-03-15 04:37:00 Can anyone tell me; what would be good imaging software that would work under Linux, gentoo specifically.
Something akin to the marvellous Picasa, that would do slideshows and everything (then again does Picasa work with Linux? I must look into that  ).

334293 2005-03-15 05:19:00 There is bound to be an app that does that ... hard part is finding what it is called. :)

I can't think of any that fits that "one-stop-does-all" description off the top of my head, but you might want to look through the e-builds under the media-gfx (packages.gentoo.org) section. Read the descriptions and then check out the homepages of any that sound likely.

Picasa will not run under Linux.

334294 2005-03-15 05:22:00 what about using when using WINE? Prescott (11)
334295 2005-03-15 05:44:00 Well, ... WINE does have an entry for picasa after all that :D - here (appdb.winehq.org). Worth a shot if you are keen but have a read of the known issues first.

I would tend to try and find a suitable native Linux app first running than running a Win32 program under WINE, less hassles.

Actually that would be my preference too. But WINE could be a fall back option

334297 2005-03-15 05:55:00 Oh! What about F-spot? I remember reading about this somewhere just the other day and hadn't gotten around to looking it up. Sounds just like what you want. Can't see an e-build, but you can download the source yourself. :)

334298 2005-03-15 06:13:00 Thanks Jen,
Ttrouble is I see its dependant on the Gnome desktop. I run KDE and one of the reasons I opted for Gentoo was so I didn't have to have a huge OS, so I'm a bit leery about that one.

But surely out of all those thousands of packages, there's something that would do the job for something as routine as working with a digital camera?

334299 2005-03-15 06:28:00 Well you did say you wanted a Picasa clone :p

OK ... moving along - next up is digiKam (digikam.sourceforge.net)! KDE app as well, with an ebuild available! Looks very cool. :D

Gentoo packages (packages.gentoo.org)
