333988 2005-03-14 17:11:00 You need to buy the type and size of RAM that your motherboard can support. Your motherboard manual should specify this. If you don't have a motherboard manual, you can download this free system information program - EVEREST Home Edition (www.lavalys.com) - and find your model. You should be able to then download a manual from the manufacturer's website.

Another option is to take the computer into a PC shop and let them suppy and fit the appropriate type of RAM. :)

333989 2005-03-14 17:12:00 the ram size wont matter much for compatibility but ddr and sdram are NOT compatible unless your motherboard has both types of slots and even then i wouln't think they'll run together well at all if at all..........also some motherboards which use say pc100 wont run pc133 and vice versa......most ddr boards will run faster ram than the board usually supports it'll just clock down to the boards max speed..........be carefull when buying ram cause there are quite a few factors which may result in your system either not runnin at all with the incorrect ram or if you use sdram perhaps it'll only recognise 1/2 of it ........theres many types of ram.......single/double sided......sd/ddr......pc100/pc133/pc2100/pc3200 etc etc etc.........get your motherboard manual and check it out.......... drcspy (146)

333991 2005-03-15 05:11:00 make sure you get the same speed and preferably size as the ram you currently have in your system if you intend to add it in .

if however you are planning to replace the ram, then make sure you get the type and speed supoorted by your motherboard, as mentioned above .

eg, if ur running 256mb DDR333, then get anutha 256mb DDR333 . Dont get 256mb DDR 266 as it will slow down ur old ram, and vice versa if you buy faster ram .

hope this helps .
