335005 2005-03-17 04:59:00 This is somewhat more of a weird dial-up problem. I'm using XP. Does anyone know what it means to have port error 678, the remote computer is not responding.

I know the remote computer is 'fine'... Also, the modem itself works on calling as a regular phone.

Can anybody please help?

335006 2005-03-17 05:07:00 Most probably the ISP end crapped out.

Just kept on trying ... It'll connect...

It's common with dialup.

335007 2005-03-17 05:35:00 No, it's not. It the same problem with every other ISP I tried.... MarkLee (7619)
335008 2005-03-17 05:39:00 Well yes it is, I have had the same prob. And can connect when I try a few minutes later.

Yes it can happen with any ISP. It doesnt mean its you that has the prob.

Ring the ISP and find it. It definitely isnt your modem thats the prob.

335009 2005-03-17 05:43:00 Has it ever worked? There is a MS article suggesting wrong driver after upgrading to XP - find correct driver. support.microsoft.com PaulD (232)

Just because you had the same prob doesn't mean EVERYONE has the same problem . I told you, we've tried various different ISP's, and they consistently work with my other computer .

PaulD, I've tried different drivers, and it doesn work . Yeah, the modem is newly installed, so it never worked before .

335011 2005-03-17 06:14:00 Well put the modem in another slot then. See if it does the same thing.

Or get another modem altogether.

335012 2005-03-17 06:38:00 Error 678 can be caused by phone line issues and can usually be corrected by slowing your modem connection speed by adding a string in Phone and Modems/Properties/Advanced
What you add depends on your modem model.
