334927 2005-03-17 01:26:00 I have an PC with an MSI KM400-8235 K8 motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP cpu, 512 mb of RAM (2x 256mb sticks) and Windows XP Pro with SP2. It connects through a crossover cable (with no breaks in the cable) to a Compaq Presiaro Duron 800 system with Windows 98SE and a D-Link network card. And what is the problem, you may ask? The blinking network won't work :angry ! I even re-formatted the XP system and entered a static IP address (I've followed the direction from the PressF1 FAQ for this). It worked for a little bit until (stupid me) I ran the Network Setup Wizard to make sure all the settings were fine. When I realized that the network wasn't working (it had that little "network not detected" icon it the system bar), I ran system restore to back it up to B.W. (Before Wizard, but after everything else). It didn't fix anything :stare: .
Any Suggestions?

334928 2005-03-17 01:36:00 Remove the network software . ;) Then reinstall it .

Remember that XP wants to have a user/password for the 98SE "user" .

334929 2005-03-21 05:38:00 I'll try it. Anyone else got suggestions? Mada (248)
334930 2005-03-21 05:44:00 try what Graham has suggested and get back to us, if that doesnt work we can think of something else.... Prescott (11)
334931 2005-03-26 04:06:00 Didn't work. I'm inclined to think that it is a motherboard problem, because our floppy drive isn't working. Please note that I did buy a new FDD and it didn't work. Mada (248)
334932 2005-03-26 04:20:00 As already said in other posts, DONT use the wizard .

Manually give each PC an ip address under the LAN Icon .

334933 2005-03-26 04:34:00 My floppy doesn't work in normal mode, but in safe mode it works fine. Try another network cable. Phil B (648)
334934 2005-03-26 06:19:00 make sure to disable any firewalls as a start.....but dont go online without one ! drcspy (146)
334935 2005-04-02 01:23:00 I have a feeling that it is a motherboard problem, as I am getting related symptoms. I've still got warrany on it so will be giving that a go.
Thanks for your help, I'll let you know if anything crops up. :)
