334837 2005-03-16 22:59:00 Hi All

I have a HP 710C connected (lpt1) and every time I turn the computer on it shows up as "new hardware found". If I cancel that and continue on I can still use the printer OK. Is there any way of stopping this. I have tried the HP site can't seem to download any updated drivers etc. Is it an SP2 problem or a HP one.

Thanks

Edit It is a printer

334838 2005-03-16 23:11:00 What happens if you let it finish installing the new hardware ? Overdrive_5000 (4950)
334839 2005-03-16 23:29:00 Next time I start up the computer the same happens, every time every day, either installing or not. Arnie (6624)
334840 2005-03-17 00:05:00 Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software?

Someone had a problem with their printer in this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz ) where other printer drivers were mentioned that work with that model.

334842 2005-03-17 01:01:00 Hmmm. I had no probs installing exactly this printer on XP. XP did do a "old driver - do you want to continue" warning at me but I ticked continue and it went happily in.

I'd uninstall the driver AND any software relating to it in Add/Remove then let windows detect it again on reboot, and just do the driver itself.

334843 2005-03-17 01:04:00 There are other things to try as well.

Look in the BIOS at the Parallel Port configuration, make sure it is EPP or ECP.

The problem is that the printer is not installing correctly. That could be due to no bi-directional port as an example, so it is not correctly recognised next time.
